got yellow. Just for 1 day but why? How?. The last 2 days we had fire flies
around our house. Very nice!
June
June was hot and humid. The temperature was average 36 in our house. Outside in the sun it was…. You don’t want to know. Ok… it was over 50 C. On the 25th we had a heavy shower with thunder. The mountains where clearly visible and the frogs where happily jumping around in our garden.
July
Just hot! On the 7th and 20th we had heavy rain and thunder. The mountains where clearly visible the whole month. On the 11th the green beetles came back. The water level was normal in the morning and low in the evening. From the 21st of July there was some wind too cool us down.
August
At the start of August we had days with rain, clouds, wind, no wind, sunny, etc. At the 22nd it got steamy hot. A sauna! You just couldn’t do anything. At the 6th smelly small round black beetles came. Not 1, not 100 no thousands. We had to close doors to keep them outside. But they liked the light inside. And they found some holes! Nasty little ones!
September started steamy hot but later the weather changed and got every other day some rain. On the 11th of this month there where an enormous amount of smelly little ones. The whole balcony on the 2 floor was black. On the 12th crickets came to visit us. In the evening they where singing songs which really gives you the feeling: I’m really in the tropics!
This month we got more and more rainy days. Especially the 11th and at night we had heavy rain. The temperature was still ok. Average about 28 C. On the 12th we had our first small flood. This was followed by a small flood on the 17th and 18th and the 28th of this month. The cricket kept singing for us and later there where clouds of Dragon Flies.
Like last year in this month we had a flood. It was not a big one but it lasted about 11 days. Especially Bach Dang Street was flooded and some days Nguyen Thai Hoc Street. It was a combination of heavy rain in the mountains and a strong NE wind which pushes seawater in the Thu Bon River. The temperature was average about 26 C.
December
This month was average cloudy and cold but sometimes out of no ware it was beautiful weather with temperatures till 24 C. Christmas was cloudy with drizzling rains. There where some mosquito’s around, a single lonely frog and on the good days some butterflies.
Green Apple Hoi An weather & water & insects 2007
This month was like January 2006 a pin-ball machine. Sunny days, rainy days, cloudy days and bright weather days. The lowest temperature I measured was 18 C, The highest 28 C. In Holland we have the expression: 'the temperature is how it feels', and this could be much lower than the real temperature. Often in Hoi An we experience a cold east wind and rain in January which it make it feel like it is 5 C. And the flies? There where a lot this month.
We had beautiful 'spring weather' this month. The average temperature was 28 C. There where also a lot of insects to visit us like the well known big beetle, ants and some mosquito's. On the 16th our 'Tree Frog' came back from holiday. He stays behind the frame with the map of Holland downstairs. Only in the evening she/he takes out to look for food. From the 20th we had 3 days with a lot of butterflies. The water level was mostly a little low in the morning and normal in the evening.
The temperature was quite nice this month. At the end it became hot. On the 21 we had the whole day rain and on the 29th we had suddenly a cold wind in the evening. Where did it come from?! The Trong Suong Mountains where sometimes visible in the south. There where some days with a low water level in the morning and high water in the evening in the Thu Bon River.
Cloudy mornings, sunny afternoons and nice cool breezes we had often in April. On the 14th there was some thunder. On the 7th we saw a mouse sneaking around. The cat from the neighbors got him in sight. What happened to him? The water level In the Thu Bon River was often very low in the evening which made it difficult to land with our Lighthouse Boat.
June was very humid. The temperature was average 35 in the shade. There where a lot of Red Ants around who's bites are quite painful. Small frogs where everywhere. The Trong Suong Mountains where clearly visible and there where beautiful skies at the end of the day. ®
Very hot and very humid. From the 15th till the 19th we had a heat wave! I measured
August was hot and humid. We had 6 days with heavy showers. Because of the heavy rain we had from the 5th of August days enormous amounts of Water Hyacinths in the river. There were days with a strong North Eastern wind. Mosquito's were visiting us in the evening. The water level in the river was record low and we had stunning sun sets.
The temperature was this month between the 29 and 31 C° inside. In the beginning of the month we had 8 days with some rain, thunder and it was even chilly in the evening. The water level in the river was a little higher. At the end of the month flies came along.
October didn't know what it wanted. Hot, chilly, dry and rainy days. On the first of the month the weather got influenced by Tropical Storm Melika. Heavy rain and Bach Dang Street got flooded. On the 15th there was a lot of water coming from the mountains and because of a strong Eastern wind there came a lot of water from the sea. Water waves were tumbling over each other. At the end of the month Bach Dang Street and Nguyen Thai Hoc str got flooded.

Also
the last day of the year was dark and cloudy. Bach Dang street was almost every evening
flooded which was very bad for business in that street. We hardly saw the
mountains in the west.
To
be honest, not a month you really want to remember.

Very hot and very humid. From the 15th till the 19th we had a heat wave! I measured
36 C° inside. On the 22nd started 3 days with cool wind in
the evening. Pffff!! The whole month there
were a lot of small beetles in the evening. On the 14th the air was full with
Dragon Flies. On the 30th and 31 we had Cicadas in the trees around our
house. Most days the water level in the

November
11th till the 13th off November! |
November 2007 was disaster
month. The 11th till the 13th we had the biggest flood since 1964. The water
race in a short time because of days of heavy rain, high tide and a strong eastern
wind. A lot of rubbish was floating in the water, sometimes with animals on
top. The water came about 1 meter high in our house. When the water was gone a
thick layer of mud remain. Later more floods came. In total we had 7 floods
this year.
December
This
month we had some beautiful days. It felt like European spring. The temperature
was average 24 C°.
The Christmas days the weather was nice. And the 31st started cloudy but had a
sunny end. What will bring 2008? More wind? More rain? More ...? Anyway 1 more
year! Cheers!

January
This month was like a pin-ball machine. Sunny days, rainy days, cloudy days and bright weather days. On the 6th we had heavy rain and a very strong wind at night. On the 20th there was a fog above the Thu Bon River. The 29th of January we had the whole day rain while it was TET, the Vietnamese New Year!! The water lever changed quiet often and Bach Dang Street got flooded 9 times in the evening this month. Flies kept on visiting us even they were not invited.
February
This could be called 'cloudy month'. Out of 28 days, 15 started cloudy. There were only 4 days with rain which felt mostly at night. The 16th it got even 30 C. Flies, mosquito's and the first beetles were happy flying around. Some frogs started to cross the road in front of our house which was not wise! And no flooding anymore.
March
This
month made me a little depressive. 20 Days started with clouds. There were even
3 days with fog. All together it made me feel I was back in the Netherlands. Of
course there were some nice days and even a hot one: the 22 it was 41 C in the
sun. At the end of the month there were suddenly a lot of small yellow
butterflies. The amount of beetles who
were attacking our guests in 2005 were hardly present.
April
This month the temperature climbed very fast. It got hot and humid. The water level in the Thu Bon river was many days low. We had 6 days with thunder and lightning. The 15th of April we had a small storm. The Trong Sung Mountain Range was often very clearly too see. Our garden looked like a zoo: small yellow and black butterflies, mosquito's, normal annoying flies, frogs and dragon flies.
May
This
month was sunny and hot. There where 4 days with a strong wind and 2 with heavy
showers. On the 22 & 23 suddenly the water in The Thu Bon river colored
yellow. On the 24th Van Gogh came and painted it blue again. In the evening we
had some low flying bats and we even observed 2 very ugly, filthy cockroaches.
June
June
was very hot. The temperature average in our house was 35 C. No, we have no
aircon! The water level in the Thu
Bon River
was many days very low. The Trong Sung Mountain Range was very good visible,
Impressive!! Ants started to attack our house. Hundreds, thousands, millions. ®
July
This month was like July 2005 very hot. Almost every day started with a strong Southwest wind. In the afternoon it changed in a Northeastern wind. The water level was especially in the evening low. The ants started a guerrilla war which is difficult to win. On the 23, 24 and 25th we had heavy showers in the afternoon.
August
This month had many cloudy starts. Luckily most of the time it was sunny in the afternoon. 9 afternoons ended in heavy rain which spared us cleaning our terrace. Jumping frogs were all over the place and very small beetles and flies were visiting us in the evening. The Gecko's got fat! The temperature started dropping.
September
This
was a month with extremes. In the beginning it was very hot. 34 C in the
shadow. On the 11th the temperature dropped suddenly from 34 to 28 C. On the
24th it was the whole night raining and Bach Dang street got flooded. The month
ended with beautiful weather. But than. . .
October
On the first Danang and Hoi An got hit by the typhoon Xangsane. Some houses collapsed. Many roofs where blown away. Old big trees on the market didn't survive. Thanks to the Government who warned and evacuated many people there where not many death or wounded. Bach Dang Street got flooded. The middle of October was nice but in the last week we had heavy showers in the morning and night. Normal we have 530 mm rain in Central Vietnam. This year only 120 mm!?
November
It was a boring month. Just beautiful weather all day. Some flies. Some mosquito's. Some Dragon Flies. Some. . . .it's difficult too describe!
December
4 & 5 December 2006! |
Ever? Sure it will be different than 2006. Enjoy your trip and get a nice sun tint!

Later on the weather changed.1 Day it was beautiful the other day it was
raining. There was a strong wind and at the end of the month mosquitoes and big

mysterious. And the river? Low water in the morning but in the evening Bach Dang Street
got flooded.
February

For the insects.... it's to hot!
August
Beautiful weather this month. Sometimes a little bit cloudy.
August
was also frog month. There were hundreds of frogs in the evening that went for
a 'jumpy walk'. The
water level in the river stayed low in the evening.
September
September
started with heavy rains. This month we had hot days, cloudy days, rainy days
and days with storm like the 12th and the 13th.
On
the 14th there came a lot of water from the Truong Son Mountains. The current in the river was
very strong. It was not possible to go with our boat. On the 17th we
where closed because of heavy rain.
On
the 18th Bach Dang
Street was flooded.
October
This was a nice month. Average the weather was nice. There were some days with rain in the morning or at night. The frogs had a good time and many visited our garden.
November
Start of November, 2005 |
We lost
15 roof tiles and we were the whole day busy to mop our floors and to repair
our roof. The second of November it was beautiful weather.
